Reinforcement and Stabilization Geosynthetics
At Jordan Bromine Company (JBC), the second-largest bromine producer worldwide, an APEC BENTOCLINE GCL lining system was installed beneath the bromide pond to ensure safe containment and environmental compliance.

The bromine extraction process at the Dead Sea site generates large volumes of brine containing elevated concentrations of bromide salts. Without robust containment, leaks or seepage from the evaporation ponds risk groundwater contamination and environmental harm. Additionally, the harsh chemical nature of bromide-rich brine demands high-performance solutions.
APEC's BENTOCLINE GCL base-lining system was installed beneath the evaporation pond to provide hydraulic containment of the tailbrine. The bentonite-infused GCL delivers a low-permeability barrier, ensuring effective brine isolation. Its composite configuration resists chemical degradation and maintains physical stability under heavy loads from pond fluids and operational activities.
Located in Ghor al-Safi in the Jordan Valley, JBC operates within a 33-hectare site that includes brine evaporation ponds, a bromine processing plant, and an export terminal in Aqaba. The evaporation pond collects tailbrine and housekeeping runoff and operates under a zero-discharge policy, relying on natural evaporation while containing all liquid through engineered liners. JBC's facility adheres to stringent environmental standards (ISO 14001).
