Reinforcement and Stabilization Geosynthetics
Within Kuwait's large-scale environmental cleanup program, APEC supplied BENTOCLINE N composite GCL and MATFLOW Geocomposite drainage layer to provide a high-performance impermeable barrier and efficient leachate collection.
Project : South Kuwait Excavation Transportation and Remediation-II (SKETR -II)
Consultant : M/s. KEO
Product : BENTOCLINE ®
The remediation landfill was required to safely encapsulate large volumes of contaminated soil and liquids, including leachate from impacted materials. Without an engineered containment and drainage liner system, there was substantial risk of leachate migration into the subsurface environment, which could lead to groundwater contamination.
APEC's solution strategically integrates BENTOCLINE N composite GCL as the core hydraulic barrier, leveraging its sodium-bentonite composition and geomembrane reinforcement for ultra-low permeability and chemical resilience. Where active drainage was required, the MATFLOW Geocomposite was incorporated to intercept infiltrating fluids and channel them toward engineered collection systems.
This landfill is part of Kuwait's Environmental Remediation Program (KERP), aimed at treating and disposing of millions of cubic meters of soil impacted by hydrocarbons. APEC's geosynthetic systems were chosen for their proven performance in large-scale landfill capping and base-liner installations, with the GCL spanning 565,000 sqm and the drainage composite installed over 165,000 sqm.
